Information
History
The Luard family has owned Tigh na Caora since 1957. The house has been much loved by the large extended family (now in its fourth generation there) for over half a century. Many friends have returned again and again for decades to this most welcoming of cottages. Tigh na Caora is comfortably furnished and fully equipped to a high standard. It is decorated with oddities from all over the world, many old and special things, and lots of books, which make it feel not so much like a holiday cottage but the family home that it is. Many people have had wonderful times here and the atmosphere is special.

THINGS TO DO

You can have several different holidays on Mull, from the very energetic to the very lazy, the wild to the historical, the mountainous to the watery, the adventurous to the sedate.

Mull is a large and varied island, with many fascinating islands within reach. There are boat trips to Staffa and the Treshnish Islands from Ulva Ferry. Staffa is famous for its basalt rock formations and Fingals Cave, the Treshnish Islands are the breeding grounds for many sea birds including puffins. The Holy Island of Iona is within easy reach and only a short sea crossing away from Mull. A days walking on Ulva has a magic all of its own. Whales, dolphins and porpoises can be watched from specialist boat trips that start from near Dervaig. Sea, river and loch fishing are available all over the island.

Mull abounds with wildlife and it is difficult to spend a week here without encountering red deer, otters, golden or white-tailed eagles. There are fine castles to visit, Mull's own munro, Ben More, to climb, and Tobermory is regarded as one of the most picturesque ports in the western isles. There area surprising number of good restaurants on the island and excellent seafood to buy.

However for many visitors it is the walking, exploring hills and beaches, picnicing and swimming and just pottering, which are the magical elements of a holiday on this beautiful island.
